Call for Nominations: SSB Council Members & Officers
The SSB Nominating Committee is in the process of identifying outstanding candidates for the positions of both President Elect (starting 2023) and General Council (2023-2025).
All individuals elected to these positions will be expected to attend the next three SSB Council meetings held during the Evolution Conference (the society provides registration waivers for council members). Ideal candidates will be SSB members actively involved in the Society and the broader evolutionary biology community, with a record of research accomplishment in a relevant area (a publishing record that includes the Society journal, Systematic Biology is recommended, though not required). The duties and responsibilities of these positions are described in detail in the SSB constitution.
If you know of any individuals who merit consideration for these positions, please send names, contact information, and a brief statement of qualifications for your nominees to the Nominating Committee Chair, Matt Hahn and the SSB Executive Vice President (Adam Leaché) by January 22, 2022. Self-nominations are also welcome. We will attempt to accommodate all nominees, but because of ballot-space and balance considerations, nominees are not guaranteed to be placed on the ballot.
When considering individuals for these opportunities, remember that our society has strength in diversity. We want SSB's leadership to reflect the general diversity of our scientific community and, more broadly, global diversity. Thus, we strongly encourage nominations of scientists who identify as and/or have a strong record of advocating for underrepresented folks in evolutionary biology.
