Call For Symposia and Workshops
Symposia: Proposals for SSB symposia at the Evolution meetings are solicited every spring, with announcements posted on the website and through the evoldir listserv. Proposals (~2 pages) should include (1) a descriptive title with the names of the organizers, (2) one or two paragraphs explaining the purpose of the symposium and its relevance to systematics, (3) a list of presentations including proposed speakers, their institutions or affiliations, and their presentation titles, and (4) an indication of whether the speakers have been invited and whether they have agreed to participate.
Symposia are restricted to half-day sessions (typically 6 half hour talks). Additional scheduling considerations can be found on the Evolution meeting website. In selecting symposia, the SSB is particularly interested in those whose topics do not overlap with those from previous meetings, that introduce new ideas or synthesize important concepts, or those that are particularly good examples of the analysis of empirical data. Proposals that unite systematics with other fields are also desirable. We strongly encourage participation from young investigators and others typically under-represented in symposia.

Proposals are submitted to the Program Chair (see Executive Committee page for contact details) following the call. Any questions about the submission and selection process should be directed to the Program Chair. Inquiries about potential submissions are also welcome!
Workshops: The SSB also provides funds to support workshops at the annual joint Evolution meetings. Proposals for workshops follow the same format and process as symposia although the format of the session is more flexible. Organizers can divide the day-long session as they choose. See the recent SSB workshop at Evolution 2015 in Guaruja for an example. Workshops are expected to have at least 4 presenters and accommodate between 30 and 60 SSB member participants. Workshop proposals for Evolution 2016 are being accepted until Dec. 1st 2015. For more details, contact the program chair, Stacey Smith.
